Narragansett Bay Research

NarrBay.org is the one stop portal for researchers interested in Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island. NarrBay is home to specialized coastal and marine datasets which can be downloaded in a variety of formats.

Narragansett Bay Research Reserve

Includes the Narragansett Bay Tide Calendar. The Narragansett Bay Research Reserve is one of 27 Reserves in the National Estuarine Research Reserve System (NERRS). Currently, the NERRS protects over 1 million acres of estuarine waters and adjacent upland habitats. The Narragansett Bay Research Reserve is located in the heart of Narragansett Bay on four islands: Prudence, Patience, Hope and Dyer.
The Narragansett Bay Research Reserve protects approximately 4400 acres of land and water.
We are located in the Narragansett Bay Watershed which is comprised of 1,657 square miles. Sixty-one percent of the watershed is in Massachusetts and thirty-nine percent is in Rhode Island.

A pilot project with the Town of North Kingstown has compiled and studied a large amount of data important for understanding sea level rise at the local level. Out of this effort have come new planning tools for government, community, and the private sector to use as they collaboratively make decisions about how to protect people and property as the ocean rises.
