FAQs
How do I request books, movies, etc.?
There are 2 ways to request materials:
Visit catalog.oslri.net and search for what you would like, and request them with your library card number. This is the same as it was before the COVID-19 shut down. However, you can only have up to ten (10) items requested at one time.
Call or chat with a library staff member during our operating hours (10:00-3:30).
The item I want says it is available at North Kingstown Free Library. Can I schedule a same-day pick up?
The best and fastest way to get an item that is available at the library is to call or use the web-chat on our website to speak with someone directly during our operating hours.
However, you can also request the item in the catalog. When you get a notice that it is available, contact us to schedule your pick up.
I got a notice that my requested items are available. How do I schedule a pick up for them?
If you’ve received a notice that your items are available, call or chat with a library staff member during our operating hours to schedule a pick up time. We do our best to set up same-day appointments when possible. However, you may need to schedule an appointment for the next day. You can request a pick up date that works best for you.
How long do I have to schedule a pick up for my available items?
Once you get a notice that your items are available, you will have one (1) week to call and schedule a pick up.
How do I reach a staff member?
To reach a staff member, call or chat with us during our operating hours, Monday-Friday, 10:00am-3:30pm. If you cannot contact us during our operating hours, you can call and leave a message, or email nkiref@nklibrary.org with your questions or requests (please include your library card number in emails with requests for items).
How do the appointments work?
There are two (2) appointment slots each day:
- Morning: 10:00am – 12:30pm
- Afternoon: 1:00pm – 3:30pm
Items are placed in a paper bag on a cart with your name (Last name, First initial) on a slip stapled to the outside. The bags are in alphabetical order when they are placed on the carts. The carts are in the entryway of the library’s main doors (weather permitting, the carts will be just outside the main entrance).
I have an appointment scheduled, now what?
During your appointment timeframe, come to the library to pick up your items. Please wear a mask and maintain social distancing when you arrive at the library.
Your items will be in a bag on a cart in the front entryway of the library’s main doors (weather permitting, the carts will be just outside the main entrance). Your bag will be the one with your name on a slip (Last name, First initial). Take the bag with you and have a great day!
Can I return items I have at home?
Yes. Please drop your items in either of our book drops to allow for material quarantine. There is a drive-up book drop in the parking lot, and a slot along the right side of the building as you head towards the main entrance. Both drops are currently open 24/7.
