Ordinary People
by Judith Guest

I read Ordinary People by Judith Guest. This book is about a family that based on appearance looks like an ideal family. Calvin, the husband is determined and successful in his job. Beth is an organized efficient wife. Conrad, their son is on the swim team and seems like a regular teenager.

Looks can be deceiving though as the family struggles through the death of their first son and as Conrad struggles with depression. Each person has their own secrets and problems and in order to come together as a family, they must learn how to open up to each other.

This was a very emotional and moving book that exposes the reality of most families. I enjoyed reading this book and realizing the truth that no family is perfect and each has their own faults. I would recommend this book to all readers.
