The Prelude to
the Lord of the Rings: The Hobbit Hobbit? What is a Hobbit? Well, Hobbits are like people; little people. They are smaller than the dwarfs. They live at The Shire, a place between River Brandywine and the Far Downs. Hobbits enjoy peace and quiet, but love to throw large parties. They are a merry race, who wear bright colors and almost never wear shoes. They are very jolly, and are quite plump. Hobbits like to stay where they are and be left alone. There was one Hobbit that would not enjoy the pleasure of being left alone; Bilbo Baggins, for that was his name, would be drawn into a quest with a wizard named Gandalf. Gandalf the Grey came marching into the squire on peaceful afternoon with a band of homeless dwarfs. He told Bilbo stories of the world outside the Shire, and of the different races and creatures that existed. Evil orcs, savage wolves and other unknown creatures. Bilbo was soon drawn into Gandalfs quest. In the End Bilbo saves his village from their worst fear of all, the great dragon Smaug. Review by Sonia, grade 10. |
