If You Come Softly
by Jacqueline Woodson

If You Come Softly is about two teenagers growing up in New York City. One is a white Jewish girl and the other is an African-American boy. Both came from different sides of town and different cultures but meet each other at the same school. They both instantly fall in love with each other despite what society thinks of them being together. Each battles their own personal problems while continuing to have a strong, deep relationship. Their relationship changes both their lives dramatically.

I enjoyed reading this book. I would recommend it to teenagers, who probably relate to the personal problems each one faces. The book would appeal to people who like realistic romances.
