West Bay Open Studios: Demonstrations and Exhibit Opening
Two of the artists featured in the West Bay Open Studios Tour will demonstrate their art. Artist Janet Austin will set up her looms and show us how tapestries are made. The tapestry weaving techniques used to create pictorial wall hangings in the Middle Ages are the same used to create Navajo rugs, Turkish kilims, and many other gorgeous textiles. Janet will discuss yarns, looms, tools and books, and will answer any questions you might have. Harry Spring will be demonstrating "throwing" on the potter's wheel - bowls, pitchers, vases and mugs. During the entire month of October the library is hosting an exhibit of work by the artists of the WBOS Tour, now in its fourth year. This year the Tour will take place at the artist's studios on October 20th and 21st.
