If you have been thinking about researching your family and need help getting started or if you have already done some research and would like some help moving it forward, stop by our South County Room between 6:30 and 8 p.m. and Helen Smith from the RI Genealogical Society will be there to lend a hand. No registration required.

Participants bring a dish to share prepared from this month’s cookbooks featuring dishes from Africa. There is a discussion about the book while we sample all the dishes. This month we will be reading and cooking from The Africa Cookbook by Jessica Harris and The Soul of a New Cuisine by Marcus Samuelsson. Registration is required for this program. Accompanying Wednesday, November 29th’s World War I topic on airpower, the movie Flyboys will be shown which tells the story of the first American fighter pilots to enter WWI.
The adventures of the Lafayette Escadrille, young Americans who volunteered for the French military before the U.S. entered World War I, and became the country’s first fighter pilots. Rated PG-13, 2006. Registration preferred.

A four-part lecture series presented by Dr. Stanley Carpenter from the Naval War College.

Tonight's lecture covers the United States’ entry into the war in April, 1917 on the Allied side. The lecture also looks at the development of airpower as each side strives to gain air superiority over the static trenches below. The German Empire initiated unrestricted submarine warfare in 1917 and the war at sea is addressed in depth. Finally, the war in the Middle East is covered. Registration preferred.

A four-part lecture series presented by Dr. Stanley Carpenter from the Naval War College.

The final lecture in the series covers the Allied offensive starting in summer, 1918 that ultimately forced Germany to surrender once the United States was fully engaged. The final Allied offensive followed the desperate German Spring Offensives that failed to defeat Britain and France. The lecture also addresses the Russian collapse on the Eastern Front and the outbreak of the Russian Revolution that sparked the rise of communism. Registration preferred.
