World War I Lecture Series: Part I-When Empires Collide

A four-part lecture series presented by Dr. Stanley Carpenter from the Naval War College.

Tonight's lecture covers the outbreak of the war with a look at the causes and the early months as the initial conflict between the Austro-Hungarian Empire and Serbia soon embroils all the great powers of Europe. On the Western Front, the war evolved into a war of fortifications and entrenchments. Registration preferred.

Borrow Our Telescope!

The library now has an Orion StarBlast Astro Reflector telescope available for patrons aged 18 and older to borrow.
The telescope, which was generously donated to us by Skyscrapers, Inc., is available to be borrowed for a period of one week. The telescope may be checked out or reserved downstairs at the Reference Desk.

New DVDs Coming Soon!

You can place holds on new DVDs that will be coming in this month by clicking on New DVDs. To receive the list via email every month, click on Newsletter Signup, click a checkmark next to New Feature DVDs - Coming Soon, type your email in the box at the bottom of the screen, and click on the subscribe button. Concerned that there are a lot of people in line for a DVD that you'd like to borrow? We recommend that you place a hold anyway because the North Kingstown copy fills holds picked up in North Kingstown first. You may move up the list more quickly than you thought that you would!

Mobile Printing comes to the North Kingstown Free Library

The Library has launched PrinterOn mobile printing. Patrons can print while at the library, or send a document for printing from home or wherever they may be, then pick it up at the library within 24 hours. Use your smartphone, tablet or PC.

Just use the webpage address www.printeron.net/osl/nkfl to go to an online webpage form. Fill out the form and click on the green printer in the lower right corner.

TumbleBook Library

The TumbleBookLibrary is a collection of TumbleBooks (animated, talking picture books) with fiction, non-fiction and foreign language titles, Read-Alongs (chapter books with sentence highlighting and narration but no animation), TumbleTV which consists of pre-set playlists of a sequence of books, and Tumble Puzzles & Games. TumbleBooks are created from existing picture books which we have licensed from children's book publishers and converted to the TumbleBook format.
You may want to explore the site by checking out all the books, games and features. Our catalogue has book descriptions, book reviews, and author/illustrator/publisher information.
